/ The first consultation /

Advanced body composition analysis.

The first consultation lasts one hour and includes advanced body composition analysis: bioelectrical impedance and anthropometry according to the international ISAK protocol, for a thorough assessment of body composition and morphology. The examination takes about 15 minutes and is included in the consultation.

Bioelectrical impedance

An instrument measures the electrical properties of tissues and estimates body composition parameters.

ISAK anthropometry

A standardised protocol of measurements taken by the practitioner: weight, height, girths, bone breadths and skinfolds.

Two methods, not one

Impedance and anthropometry are different and complementary: together they say more than either alone.

Frequently asked questions

01What is the ISAK protocol?
ISAK stands for International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry: an international organisation that has defined standardised protocols for measuring the human body precisely and reproducibly. It is not a machine and it is not a form of bioelectrical impedance: it is an anthropometric assessment methodology. An ISAK assessment may include weight, height, girths, bone breadths and skinfolds; the series of measurements varies with the level of protocol applied. These data allow body morphology and proportions to be assessed and, through specific calculations, certain aspects of body composition.
02What is the difference between ISAK and bioelectrical impedance?
They are two different methods, and they can be complementary. Bioelectrical impedance (BIA) uses an instrument and measures the electrical properties of tissues to estimate body composition parameters. ISAK anthropometry uses a standardised protocol of body measurements taken by the practitioner. Both are carried out at the first consultation.

Clinical Nutrition

It starts with the assessment.

The nutrition plan comes from the clinical assessment and is reviewed over time.
